Concealed carry class at Concertina Beer Hall after fatal shooting

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 23-year-old Milwaukee man was shot and killed by the owner of the Concertina Beer Hall early Friday, August 16th, during a robbery attempt. The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office this week announced that no charges will be filed against the bar's owner, Andy Kochanski. Now, a concealed carry class has been scheduled at the tavern this weekend.

"I defended myself," Kochanski told FOX6 News.

Police say three men walked into the bar -- two of whom were armed, and tried robbing the owner at gunpoint.

Kochanski pulled his own gun.

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed, another man was injured, and a third man was on the run.

"What are you going to do? You`re going to protect yourself and your customers. I have no regrets of doing it and I`ll do it again," Kochanski said.

"It's really a textbook example of proper use of deadly force and proper aftermath. Owner pulled a gun from underneath his bar, defended himself and his customers," Nik Clark, the Chairman and President of Wisconsin Carry told FOX6 News.

On Sunday, August 25th, Wisconsin Carry will host a free concealed carry class at Kochanski's bar.

"Sometimes when things happen in people`s own neighborhoods, it becomes more real to them, so they have more questions," Clark said.

Two instructors will teach 100 people the first steps to defending themselves with a gun.

"This class will help them understand what is a deadly threat and what`s not a deadly threat," Clark said.

Clark wants the Concertina shooting to educate folks about their safety, and send a message to criminals.

"If a criminal is presenting a threat with a gun, they`re giving someone else justification to shoot them to kill them," Clark said.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke will also be on hand during Sunday's concealed carry class.

The class is currently full, but Wisconsin Carry has free classes available across the Milwaukee area.
