Thunderstorms, heavy rain lead to flooding issues in some areas

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Showers and thunderstorms rolled through southeastern Wisconsin Wednesday night, August 21st and Thursday morning. Some woke up to the sound of thunder and heavy rain on Thursday morning, and the rain led to flooded roadways in some areas.

It was slow going on many Milwaukee-area roadways Thursday morning as drivers dealt with rain and thunderstorms -- and even flooding. On I-94 at Highway 100, a ramp was covered in water.

Crews eventually blocked the ramp and searched for and unclogged the blockage -- allowing the water to slowly recede.

Heavy rains and flooded streets disabled a couple of vehicles in West Milwaukee, near Burnham Street and Miller Park Way.

Traffic was blocked off as firefighters unclogged sewer drains so the water could run off the roadways like it should.

Some in downtown Milwaukee were caught outside in the downpours Thursday.

In Waukesha, near Darlene Drive and West Avenue, some problem areas were blocked off to traffic. The Fox River water level in downtown Waukesha rose Thursday, and the rush of water was thunderous, even after the rain stopped.

Things began to dry up around 1:00 p.m. Thursday, and the good news: there is no chance of rain or storms in the forecast for the weekend!
