Woman shot, killed in apartment during drug deal

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are still investigating an incident that led to a 27-year-old woman, and mother of two, being shot and killed inside her apartment.

Her family tells FOX6 the victim was Alexis Taylor. Taylor's 34-year-old boyfriend was also shot, but sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The incident happened around 4 a.m. Saturday, August 24th at an apartment on 91st St. near Appleton Ave. Police believe there was a drug deal in progress.

"I heard pow pow pow! I heard three shots," said Cynthia Ford, who lives just below where the shooting took place. "Melvin came beating on my door. I mean, like the police would knock."

Ford's upstairs neighbor came to her for help. He told her that he and his girlfriend had been shot trying to buy marijuana.

Ford called 911 and authorities arrived within minutes.

"Me and the police lady went upstairs. That's when I seen Lexie behind the couch and it looked like, from the blood trail, she had run from the back to the front," recalled Ford.

Ford remembers seeing Taylor on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, asking for help, before going into shock.

Taylor's two young children were also in the apartment at the time of the shooting. They were found safe and taken custody by Child Protective Services.

The children are being cared for by Taylor's mother.

Authorities say no one has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
