MPD officer released from hospital after assault

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Police Officer Dwain Monteilh has been released from Froedtert Hospital and is recovering at home after being assaulted on the city's north side Monday afternoon, August 26th.

According to MPD, Officer Monteilh attempted to stop one suspect, identified as 24-year-old Tory Johnson and Officer Roy Hom attempted to stop 18-year-old Keandre Johnson when both suspects began to physically fight with the officers near 28th and Auer Monday.

During the struggle, Tory Johnson struck Officer Monteilh several times in the face — and attempted to take his gun, according to police. The officers were able to call for help, and both suspects were eventually taken into custody.

Officer Monteilh was taken to the hospital, where he was being treated for serious injuries, including a broken orbital and bleeding behind the eye.

Officer Monteilh is 43 years old and has 15 years of service with MPD.

Milwaukee police anticipate the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office will begin reviewing the investigation late Tuesday afternoon.
