Cooling center set up at Shorewood H.S. following power outage

SHOREWOOD (WITI) -- The American Red Cross has opened a cooling shelter at Shorewood High School, after a transformer fire left many without power on Tuesday, August 27th.

As of 9:00 p.m., about 250 people spread out between five complexes remained without power. We Energies says power was rerouted from other lines to get customers back on line.

We Energies hoped to have power restored to another 50 customers by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Boundaries of the power outage were on the north, E. Capitol Drive, on the east, N. Lake Drive, on the south, Stratford Court and on the west, N. Fratney Street.

We Energies says the power outage was caused by a switch fuse unit that failed and then caught fire. It may have been heat related, but the utility is investigating the cause.

The area that will be the last to get the power restored is an area east of Oakland and just south of Capitol Drive. It is expected to take until Wednesday morning until power is fully restored due to the amount of damage and repairs that need to be made.

We Energies had some generators on site to provide power to some customers.
