Heat, severe weather threaten H-D 110th celebration

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Those in search of motorcycle muscle along the Lake Shore ended up seeing a different kind of muscle on Friday, August 30th -- from Mother Nature.

Riders like Lori Sweger and Russel Fletcher say they didn't mind the weather during their celebration, even though it was hot and sticky.

Organizers at the Summerfest grounds allowed people to bring in one sealed bottle of water each due to the heat advisory. Thankfully, for many, a storm front brought in some cooling winds -- along with rain and lightning.

The threatening weather temporarily shut down the Sky Glider due to safety concerns and concerts at the grounds became a bit more intimate as crowds gathered under what little cover the music stages provided.

Through the ups and downs of the day's weather, attitudes remained positive.

"The weather's beautiful here. I'm on vacation and I'm going to enjoy it," said Fletcher.
