Milwaukee Brewers acquire right-handed reliever Michael Blazek

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed reliever Michael Blazek from St. Louis as the player to be named in the deal that sent right-handed reliever John Axford to the Cardinals on Friday. Blazek will join the team tomorrow and wear uniform number 54. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin.

Blazek, 24, had spent his entire professional career in the Cardinals organization. He was selected in the 35th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. He made his Major League debut this season (11g, 0-0, 6.97era, 10.1ip, 10h, 8r, 8er, 10bb, 10k). In the minor leagues this season, Blazek combined to go 1-2 with a 1.97 ERA and 9 saves in 36 relief appearances between Double-A Springfield (17g, 0-0-7, 0.92era) and Triple-A Memphis (19g, 1-2-2, 2.77era).

Blazek was born and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he graduated from Arbor View High School in 2007.
