Greendale elementary school temporarily locked down

GREENDALE (WITI) -- Canterbury Elementary School in Greendale was placed on lock down status for a little more than an hour on Wednesday, September 4th.

In a notice that was emailed to parents of students at the school, Principal Christian Pleister said the Greendale Police Department were in pursuit of a suspect in the area shortly before 1 p.m. -- and it was necessary to place the school in lock down. All students were safe and accounted for during that time.

Shortly after 2 p.m., another email was sent to parents indicating the lock down had been lifted and that "all students and staff were resuming normal activities." The police had deemed the area safe.

In the email to parents, the principal urged parents to reassure their children that procedures like the lock down are in place "to keep them and their classmates and teachers safe at all times."
