Wauwatosa man arrested for sixth OWI during Harley 110th

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 50-year-old Scott Long of Wauwatosa has been charged in connection with his sixth OWI, after he was arrested on Wednesday, August 28th.

Long faces one count of OWI (fifth or sixth offense) and one count of obstructing an officer.

The criminal complaint in the case indicates Long's vehicle was involved in a crash in the parking lot of Mustang Shelly's on W. National Avenue on Wednesday night, just before 9:30 p.m.

Mustang Shelly's was very busy Wednesday night due to the Harley-Davidson 110th anniversary celebration.

The complaint indicates officers spoke with the owner of the motorcycle that was struck, and the motorcycle owner's father, who stated that Long tried to flee the scene several times after the crash, so the motorcycle owner's father removed the keys from the ignition of Long's van, in order to keep him at the scene.

When officers arrived at the scene, they observed Long sitting at the scene, and the complaint indicates that even in a sitting position, Long was swaying in all directions. An officer could smell a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Long, according to the complaint, and he also had heavily slurred speech.

The complaint indicates Long had trouble articulating his thoughts, and was unable to say where he was coming from, but admitted to consuming a few drinks and described himself as drunk.

The complaint indicates Long initially gave officers at the scene a false name, before his true identity was determined. It was discovered that Long has five prior OWI convictions and his legal limit was now .02.

Long was ordered to perform field sobriety tests, at which time he told the officer he was too drunk to perform some of the tests and was arrested, according to the complaint.

Long's prior OWI convictions occurred in November of 2006, October of 2002, November of 2000, November of 1995, and September of 1994.
