Alverno College students remember 9/11 with flags

MILWAUKEE (WITI ) -- Before the sun rose on the morning of September 11th, 2013, Alverno College students were awake to remember and pay tribute to the victims of the horrific terrorist attack that occurred 12 years ago.

"We have 2,977 flags, each flag represents a person who lost their life in 9/11," says Alverno College student Rita Fadness.

The student organization, The Alverno College Republicans, is one of about 200 student groups participating in the Young America's Foundation "Never Forget Project."

This effort encourages campuses across the country to display this flag visual to prevent young people from forgetting the meaning behind this day.

Alverno students have been working on fundraising and organizing this effort since May.

"If you can imagine having to plan who's going to have to help put up almost 3,000 flags it has taken some time, but we have a lot of momentum to do it," says Fadness.

The flags set-up at Alverno College were located in the Alumnae Courtyard.

They were be on display until 7 p.m. on 9/11.
