Badgers lose a heartbreaker in Arizona, 32-30

PHOENIX (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Badgers (No. 20) fell to Arizona State University Sun Devils on Saturday, September 14th in a heartbreaker. When the final seconds ticked off the clock, Arizona was the victor by a score of 32-30. But it's how the game ended that has Badgers fans scratching their heads.

With just 18 seconds on the clock and the ball on Arizona State's 13 yard line, Wisconsin was poised to put a field through the uprights and win by one. However, that's when the game turned a bit weird.

Wisconsin quarterback Joel Stave snapped the ball and ran toward the center of the field to set up that field goal. In doing so, he ran into one of his own offensive lineman -- and placed the ball on the ground.

Arizona State players pounced on the ball -- thinking it may be considered a fumble. But the officials called it a dead ball.

With the clock still ticking, the Badgers were not able to get the ball snapped before the last second ticked off. Wisconsin never got that potential game-winning field goal off.

Stave threw 15 for 30 with 187 yards passing. The Badgers' Melvin Gordon was the team's top rusher 193 yards in 15 carries.
