Sheriff's officials arrest Oconomowoc man for fifth OWI

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials early Thursday morning, September 19th arrested an Oconomowoc man for his fifth OWI.

On Thursday morning, September 19th, 12:42 a.m., an MCSO Deputy performed a traffic stop
on a Jeep Cherokee bearing temporary plates westbound on I94 at Hawley Road, for both
lane deviation and speeding.

The driver (and sole occupant) of the vehicle, Bryon J. Bielawski, 35, of Oconomowoc, smelled of alcohol and had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech.

After failing field sobriety tests he was arrested for drunk driving and a review of his driving record revealed it to be a 5th offense, a Felony. After the driver refused to consent to a blood draw, a search warrant was obtained.

If convicted of OWI-5th, Bielawski faces potential penalties of up to $10,000 in fines and/or
up to 6 years imprisonment. Bielawski stated that he had been coming from the lakefront,
and denied having consumed any alcohol.

His prior OWI conviction dates are from 1997, 2003, 2007, and 2008 and span both
Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.

In addition to his drunk driving record, Bielawski also has convictions for Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, Theft, Endangering Safety by Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Criminal Damage to Property, and Bail Jumping.
