Police investigate death of child on Milwaukee's northwest side

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating the death of a nearly three-year-old boy in an apartment near 95th and Sheridan on the city's northwest side.

Officers were called to the apartment at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20th, when the mother found the unresponsive child in bed.

"His whole family was just standing out on the curb and they didn't know what was going on," said neighbor Michael Mordican. "The whole neighborhood with all the police cars, everything was just crazy. Everybody wondering what's going on. What happened to him? And nobody could give us any answers."

A man, who only wanted to be identified as Larry, shares the apartment with the boy and his mother. He says he doesn't know what happened or how long the boy had been in that condition.

"She came in, what's the matter with my son? He was foaming from the mouth, but she tried to give him CPR," said Larry. "She could hear his heartbeat. She told her sister to call 911. The paramedics, they're the ones that said he was dead."

Police are not saying what caused the boy's death, which has many in the neighborhood feeling unsettled.

"I'm sitting here like, oh my god, it is a baby and then for nobody not to have any answers why he's dead?" said Mordican.

The investigation is ongoing, pending the results of the autopsy. There is no one in custody.
