Green Bay police ask for public's help in solving Amber Wilde case

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- Green Bay police are asking for the public's help in solving a case that's now 15 years old.

On September 23, 1998, 19-year-old Amber Wilde, a UW-Green Bay student who was four months pregnant, had spoken with her father about a minor traffic accident she had on the way to school. That was the last time anyone in the Wilde family has heard from Amber.

Wilde's father, Steve, reported Amber missing on September 26th. He has always suspected foul play in the disappearance of his daughter.

"Everyone has a different idea of what happened, but we want to know specifically what happened," said Jane Wilde, Amber's grandmother. "We talk about her a lot, we never forget about her."

The Green Bay Police Department has assigned two new detectives to the case and is following up with persons of interest.

"We have a lot of information on this case, we have a lot of theories, but we`re looking for a little help," said Det. Lee Kingston, Green Bay Police Dept. "Our goal is to find Amber and return Amber to her family and we're going to keep plugging away."

"I think what we're hoping more is to just know where she's at, be able to put her to rest, say our goodbyes," said Laurie Ehnert, Amber's aunt.

Investigators continue to conduct interviews -- and have sent items from recovered in the case to the state crime lab to be re-examined. That's because advances in technology might allow them to understand more about what the item means to the case; possibly determine whether there's any DNA on them or whether DNA on items can tell them anything more.
