Milwaukee man charged with three armed robberies, murder

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 29-year-old Mikal Jones of Milwaukee is facing one count of fraudulent use of a credit card, one count of armed robbery and one count of felony murder. This, for his alleged involvement in three armed robberies -- which resulted in one death.

Cristina Melendez can't hold back the tears. In August, her husband, 44-year-old Bill Melendez, was gunned down while working the register at Family Dollar on Milwaukee's south side. Now, authorities say they have the two men responsible for the murder on August 6th.

The state says Jones drove the getaway car during Melendez's murder. But in the criminal complaint, another man is mentioned -- 26-year-old Jason Wandick. Although he's not been officially charged, prosecutors say Wandick is the gunman who killed Melendez.

Court documents say after the crime, Wandick said he had been doing some dirty stuff with Jones. He went on to say he robbed and killed someone. That person was Melendez.

Also in the complaint, Jones is accused of two separate armed robberies with Wandick. One occurred two days before Melendez's murder -- where he watched his accomplish pistol whip a woman in the face until she gave up her purse. Another came on August 12th -- where Jones put a gun to a woman's head and stole her purse and jacket. In both cases, stolen credit cards were used.

If Jones is convicted, he could face more than 50 years in prison. Charges are pending for his alleged accomplice.
