Man accused of driving wrong-way, causing crash due in court

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 35-year-old Marques Franklin, the Milwaukee man who was arrested December 28th, 2012 for an OWI after driving the wrong-way on Highway 145 and causing a two-vehicle accident, is due in court Thursday, September 26th.

Authorities say Franklin was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Hwy.145 at Silver Spring Road at approximately 2:01 a.m. when he crashed head-on into a car at the Park Place overpass.

Officials say a 51-year-old man, and two females, ages 36 and 39, were traveling in the car. Police say they were transported to the hospital — the driver sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Following the crash, witnesses tell police Franklin walked across all lanes of traffic and attempted to flee the scene on foot.

Franklin was arrested for class F felony OWI – causing injury/bodily harm and recieved citations for driving the wrong way on a divided highway and first offense OWI.

Franklin faces up to 12 1/2 years in prison if convicted on the felony charge.
