Milwaukee Fire Chief announces suspension of nine firefighters

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing has announced the suspension of nine Milwaukee firefighters. These firefighters have been placed on administrative duty.

Chief Rohlfing released the following statement on Tuesday evening:

"The Milwaukee Fire Department Administration has been made aware of certain alleged actions by several of our members that are in contravention to our core values. In the interest of the citizens we serve and the other members of the MFD, nine members have been placed on administrative suspension. We are in consult with the City Attorney’s office as we move forward with the investigation.

The events under investigation in no way had any negative impact to the citizens we serve. We rightfully hold ourselves to the highest standards to ensure not only the most professional service delivery but also fostering a safe work environment based upon the ideals of mutual respect and personal and professional integrity."

No additional details have been released at this time, including the specific reason for the nine firefighters' suspensions.

FOX6 News learned on Tuesday night that those suspended allegedly knew about an incident, and apparently, later on, higher-ranking fire personnel learned of the incident and a decision was made to transfer all of the firefighters to other fire stations.

Before they were transferred, however, FOX6 News has learned they allegedly did something to disrespect their chief.
