10-month-old baby found dead inside home in S. 19th Street

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating the death of a 10-month-old baby boy -- the fifth baby to die in his home in Milwaukee in the last month. This baby's family says they don't know what happened.

The Medical Examiner was called to 1000 block of S. 19th Street in Milwaukee on Wednesday, October 2nd.

Milwaukee police say a 10-month-old baby boy was found dead inside a home. According to police, the baby's mother discovered the child was not breathing in his bed around 2:00 p.m.

The baby's mother called for medical attention, and the baby was taken to the hospital, but he could not be revived.

"He don’t have asthma or anything. They told me he just stopped breathing. How did he stop breathing? I came home as fast as I can and the paramedics are already here and he was already in my mom’s hands. They said they tried CPR or the little thing they stick on his chest and he just he said there was nothing they could do," Andrew Smith, the baby's brother told FOX6 News.

12 people reportedly live in the home near 19th and Mineral, but family members say only three were home at the time -- the baby, the baby's mother, and a sibling.

The cause of death is undetermined.

"My little brother he never cried. He always had a smile on his face. He liked to play fight. He was just starting to walk. Yesterday he took more steps than he usually took," Smith said.
