Work on Green Bay's Leo Frigo Bridge set to begin October 14th

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is announcing work to stabilize the section of the Leo Frigo (I-43) Bridge where Pier 22 settled approximately 2 feet the morning of September 25.  Work is set to begin Monday, October 14 and be completed by early November.

The general contractor is Lunda Construction Company, Black River Falls.

Two steel truss towers will be placed under the deck on both sides of and 55 feet away from Pier 22. They are designed to stabilize the bridge and keep the deck from further sagging.  Cost is estimated at $1.57 million.

The department is also taking additional steps to enhance worker safety on the bridge site. Beginning next week, lateral supports are being installed at the top of piers 21, 22, 23 and 25. While no movement has been detected at any other piers, this precautionary measure will keep the piers vertical even if they settle in a manner similar to Pier 22.
