Large crowds gather to show support for Pulaski pool at meeting

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A proposal in the Milwaukee County budget would eliminate some Milwaukee pools in favor of splash pads.

On Thursday night, October 17th, large crowds gathered at Pulaski pool on the city's south side. The Pulaski pool is one of those that could be closed.

The budget proposal also includes closing Noyes Indoor Pool. More than 57,000 people used the two pools last year.

Pulaski has the highest attendance of any county pool, except for water parks in 2012 and 2013.

The County Board Chairwoman and Parks Director heard concerns about the proposal Thursday.

The County Executive's Office says it comes down to cost. The two locations need more than $4 million worth of maintenance, and don't bring in enough revenue.

Splash pads are less expensive to run.

The County Board will vote on the full budget in mid-November.
