Yeti Fest music festival gives students a positive outlet

DELAFIELD (WITI) -- Yeti Fest, a music festival run by teenagers, for teenagers, is an outlet for student creativity -- and kids got a chance to rock out on Saturday, October 19th at Lapham Peak Park in Delafield.

The event showcased the talents of area high schoolers and provided students with a positive environment during the weekend.

Kettle Moraine High School senior Jordan Curtis says she noticed a change in her Wisconsin friends after spending a year away in Oregon.

"Kids were into drugs, kids were drinking, you see it all over," said Curtis.

Curtis made it her mission to change things with the festival.

"This is what this is for, the teens to have a voice," said Curtis.

Student Jacob Kennedy opened up at Yeti Fest about the bullying he's faced for years.

"I was told every day that I was worthless and a mistake," said Kennedy. "I was unfortunate enough to be bullied to the point where I just wanted to end it all."

Kennedy says his friends and family reached out and gave him the support he needed. Although it's still a personal struggle, Kennedy says he's glad he opened up.

"Already I feel like I've made such a difference with people knowing that I've stood up," Kennedy said.

"It's the first step, bringing awareness to stuff, bringing awareness to bullying -- instead of people getting drunk because they have nothing better to do," added Curtis.
