Help military families celebrate the holidays

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Garland, ribbons, and strings of lights are getting pulled out of storage and prepared for the holiday season.

"It just kind of warms you up. If the house is lit well it's beautiful, it gets even better if we get a little snow," says Christmas Decor by Swimming Pool Services Co-Owner David Thompson.

But this year, Christmas Decor by Swimming Pool Services is decorating more than just their customers' homes.

They are also surprising two deserving families with a little Christmas joy.

"I think it's a great program. It's a great way to give back to people who are under-appreciated for their service in our country," says Thompson.

Christmas Decor is participating in the Decorated Family Program, which allows community members to nominate military families to get their home decorated for free.

One family will be chosen from the Waukesha and Washington County area and another family from the Milwaukee and Ozaukee County area.

"I can't imagine being in a position where you've got either a dad or a mom that's actively serving and is not going to be able to spend the holiday with their children and their family. This is just one way to give them a little joy," says Thompson.

Sacrificing a little time to spread Christmas cheer to those who have sacrificed so much.

Christmas Decor will be accepting nominations through Veterans Day.
