Mom accused of allowing child to be habitually truant

Angie Braun

RACINE (WITI) -- 35-year-old Angie Braun of Racine faces 11 misdemeanor counts of failing to cause a child to attend school at Fratt Elementary School.

Each count against Braun represents at least five (5) truancies -- when a student has been absent for part of or all of a school day without legal cause. In this case, Braun's child was apparently truant 62 days in the 2012-13 school year.

The criminal complaint against Braun indicates she "has not cooperated" and that "the truancy problem has not improved." It also says "measures have been taken to resolve such problems" but those measures "have been unsuccessful in correcting the child's truancy problem."

If convicted, Braun faces up to 90 days in prison and up to $1,000 in fines for each count.
