WCTC security expert says LAX shooting handled properly

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Following the shooting at LAX Friday afternoon, November 1st, many people are always wondering how such an incident could happen somewhere as seemingly secure as an airport.

Security expert Brian Dorow says it could happen anywhere. Dorow is a former police commander and the Dean of Criminal Justice at Waukesha County Technical College.

"It does not surprise me, regardless of the venue," said Dorow.

Dorow says security did everything right during the situation by finding the shooter and stopping him in his tracks.

"They know when they get that call, when they hear that gun shot, they are running to that area and that is their focus until we know the active aggressor has been stopped or there's always an assessment of the immediate area," said Dorow.

Dorow is in charge of training law enforcement officials for scenarios similar to the LAX shooting and has participated in simulated training in airport settings.

"An airport is certainly a unique venue, very concentrated with people traveling, certainly traveling all over the world," said Dorow.

Dorow says once more is revealed about the situation, officials can begin to assess airport security and determine whether changes need to be made.
