34-year-old Cedar Grove man arrested for sixth OWI offense

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY (WITI) -- 34-year-old John Norum of Cedar Grove has been charged with his sixth OWI offense following an arrest on Saturday, October 26th.

Norum faces one count of OWI (fifth or sixth offense) and one count of obstructing an officer.

A deputy initiated a stop of Norum's vehicle in the Village of Random Lake early Saturday morning. A criminal complaint says the vehicle pulled into a driveway at a fast rate of speed and went up onto a lawn portion of the yard -- and the vehicle's front tires went airborne due to the incline of the yard.

At this point, the complaint indicates the vehicle's driver and passenger got out of the vehicle, and Norum, the driver, fled the scene on foot.

Eventually, Norum stopped, and while the deputy was taking Norum into custody, the vehicle's passenger was yelling at the deputy, and a taser had to be deployed upon the passenger, according to the complaint.

The complaint says a deputy asked Norum why he ran, and Norum told the deputy "because this is my sixth (OWI)."

Following the execution of field sobriety tests, Norum was placed under arrest for OWI. Norum was later taken to the hospital for a blood draw.

Norum's previous OWI convictions occurred in December 2003, May 2007, October 2007, October 2008 and October 2008.
