Jury deliberations begin in O'Donnell parking collapse case

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A jury is expected to begin deliberations on Wednesday, November 20th after a concrete panel fell from the O'Donnell parking garage back in June of 2010, crushing a 15-year-old boy to death. The jury will decide whether the families affected will receive more than $100 million.

A company called Advanced Cast Stone, or ACS says it could have been weather, a lack of maintenance or vehicles hitting the structure that caused a 13.5-ton concrete panel to fall back in 2010. Others point the finger at ACS.

More than five weeks of testimony and closing arguments on Tuesday, November 19th take the jury back to June 24th, 2010.

15-year-old Jared Kellner to Summerfest with his friend and his friend's family, the Wosinskis, when suddenly, a concrete panel fell from the O'Donnell parking structure, crushing Kellner to death.

Eric Wosinski was injured, and his mother Amy eventually had to have a leg amputated due to her injuries.

The Wosinski's lawyer told the jury why in addition to $15.6 million for the family's injuries, he's asking for another $22 million from ACS for a panel he says was not installed correctly back in 1991.

The Kellner's lawyer says he's asking for an award in excess of $48 million for Jared Kellner's death.

The lawyer representing ACS asked the jury to put emotion aside it its decision.

Milwaukee County could also be on the hook if the jury decides it was in any way the county's fault. However, the county is also suing ACS for breach of contract and money lost when the parking structure was closed and had to be repaired.

The jury is expected to begin deliberations on Wednesday, November 20th.
