Folks take tour, observe revitalization of Harambee neighborhood

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Residents, community leaders and business owners on Wednesday, November 20th took a tour of Milwaukee's Harambee neighborhood to learn more about efforts to revitalize the area.

LISC Milwaukee, the local chapter of the national group, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation held a bus tour on Wednesday.

The group showed off new developments and proposed projects in the Harambee neighborhood.

There has been more than $25 million worth of development in the neighborhood recently, with the next wave of development centered along Martin Luther King Drive and in the Five Points area.

"There's a lot of good, decent people living in this neighborhood. There's a lot of positive things occurring in this neighborhood but oftentimes, we don't get people have a chance to come down, a chance to talk to them and a chance to show them what we're actually doing," J. Allen Stokes said.

One of the highlights was the newly opened King Drive Commons -- home to 40 new rent-to-own spaces, including single family homes, duplexes, townhouses and historic apartments.
