Police investigate fatal shooting near 37th & Hampton

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened near 37th and Hampton on the city's north side around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20th.

Officials say the victim is a 23-year-old man. Witnesses tell FOX6 News they heard between six and seven shots fired.

It was an emotionally charged scene on Wednesday afternoon and evening. After the shooting, fights broke out, and Milwaukee police say seven people were arrested, mostly for fighting.

Relatives of the victim watched in disbelief.

"It's sad. We just lost a family member -- just lost a best friend. Who wants to sit out here and watch each other kill each other fighting? It just doesn't make sense. One grandson is dead over there and the other grandson is fighting trying to find out what's going on," Barbara Hardy and Don Watts said.

Family members say the victim had earbuds in at the time of the shooting. They say he was a good person who hung out with a bad crowd.

"I don't know what happened. I just want to see him," Barbara Hardy and Don Watts said.

Detectives are trying to determine a motive for the shooting, but they believe the victim was targeted. There are no suspects in custody at this time.
