Steve "The Homer" True back on the air one week after crash

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- One week after a crash put him in the hospital, ESPN radio host Steve "The Homer" True was back on the air on Wednesday, November 20th.

Police say 59-year-old True was headed eastbound on Hampton on Wednesday, November 13th when he was struck by a car driven by a 44-year-old Milwaukee man that was headed eastbound on Fond du Lac.

Witnesses say the crash happened when the 44-year-old man failed to stop for a red traffic signal.

True was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police say the 44-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck True’s vehicle was arrested on intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, causing great bodily harm. A source familiar with the crash scene says the driver already has a past conviction involving OWI.

True is a well-known radio talk show host for ESPN 540, where he is the co-host of the “Homer and Thunder” show from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on weekdays.

True has also announced for Marquette men’s basketball games for decades.

True went home from the hospital on Friday. He says he knows he's lucky to be alive.

"The thought of how many people this happens to every day, and they don't wake up. Why you wake up and others don't. It's not that it consumes me, but you can't be human and not think that while I consider myself very spiritual, in the end you just think you're lucky," True said.

True thanked everyone for the prayers and well-wishes.
