Husband, wife suffer serious injuries in Waukesha house fire

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Two people, husband and wife, suffered serious injuries on Tuesday, November 26th in a house fire on Summit Ave. in Waukesha.

Officials say emergency crews were sent to the home around 11:30 a.m. after they received a call about black smoke pouring out of the home.

The couple managed to get out of the building. But they suffered significant burns to their bodies and experienced respiratory difficulties. Because of that, the 66-year-old wife was flown by Flight for Life to a hospital. Her 65-year-old husband was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) assisted at the scene of the fire to care for six cats and two dogs that also lived in the home. One cat died in the fire.

The fire was contained and extinguished. It appears to have started in a first-floor living room. Its cause is not known at this time.
