Fond du Lac police say body believed to be missing man recovered

FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- Fond du Lac police say they have recovered a body believed to be that of Timothy Nance -- missing since November 1st.

Positive identification is pending the results of an autopsy that will be conducted by the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner's Office.

"Now reality has set in. He's not just missing anymore, he's gone," said Rodney Emerson, one of Nance's best friends. "I'm just relieved and happy that he was found."

The case remains under active investigation.

Nance's wife, Eve, and sister-in-law, Tina Ewell, are being held in jail in connection with Nance's disappearance.

Officials said last week that two individuals were booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of hiding/mutilating a corpse and obstructing.

The two made a court appearance on Wednesday, November 27th.

At issue in court Wednesday was whether or not Nance’s wife and her sister have been held in jail for too long without being formally charged or without having bail set.

Judge Richard Nuss has sealed the legal documents regarding the state’s case against the two women. The judge says there was enough probable cause for their arrest. He also approved their week-long detention without bail.

Nuss set bond at $100,000 for Nance and $50,000 for Ewell.

Family members did not want to talk after court. Emerson says he hopes the investigation ends soon so loved ones can find some closure.

"That's what's important -- people can say goodbye to him. He can get a proper burial, all that," said Emerson.

District Attorney Eric Toney hasn’t given any type of timeline as to if or when criminal charges will be filed against Nance and Ewell.

“It’s an ongoing investigation and we don’t take the issuance of homicide charges lightly,” District Attorney Eric Toney said. “I’m not indicating what, if anything, will be charged."

A hearing is scheduled for next week.
