GERMANTOWN/MENOMONEE FALLS (WITI) -- U.S. 41/45 SB was the scene of at least two pileups during the snow storm on Sunday, December 8th. DOT video released earlier this week shows dozens of cars sliding across the freeway on 41/45 at Lannon Road -- colliding with other vehicles. A second incident on U.S. 41/45 near Pilgrim Road involved a fatality -- and the incident on U.S. 41/45 at Lannon Road shut down the freeway for hours. So many vehicles were involved in these incidents, it is difficult to determine who is at fault. FOX6 News has learned no one will be cited in the 41/45 at Lannon Road pileup.

DOT video released earlier this week shows more than a few drivers were seemingly going too fast for the snowy conditions on U.S. 41/45 at Lannon Road on Sunday -- and Germantown police officers saw that too.

However, Germantown police say the pileup at Lannon Road on Sunday involved too many factors and too many vehicles to issue citations.

"When it comes to the people involved in the crash -- the people that we know were involved, we need to know who they crashed into, why and the whole time frame -- basically like reconstructing a two-car accident. Now we've got that times 50," Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell said.

Hoell says much of that information will never be known -- indicating there are too many factors and too many involved, including several vehicles that left the scene before police got there.

"We, at this point, don't think we could meet the burden of proof if someone were to contest the citation. Some of it seems very clear cut, but once you investigate it and see what we have to prove, it's very gray and we may not have all the answers ever to this crash," Chief Hoell said.

Many of the cars stopped in the incident at Lannon Road were stopped due to the second pileup at Pilgrim Road in Menomonee Falls.

On Wednesday, December 11th, Menomonee Falls police released dashcam of the Pilgrim Road incident.

The dashcam video shows what drivers experienced, and 911 calls narrate the urgency.

A 63-year-old Franklin man was killed in that crash, and another person was seriously injured.

Menomonee Falls police say no one will be charged in this incident either -- saying the incident was too large to try to narrow down who is to blame.

As for the Germantown pileup, Chief Hoell says each person's insurance company will deal with the car and the driver it insures.
