Packers get second "W" in two weeks, beat Dallas Cowboys 37-36
ARLINGTON, Texas (WITI)-- The Green Bay Packers keep their playoff hopes alive, coming from behind and beating Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys 37-36 on Sunday, December 15th.
The first half was a disaster for the Pack. Their only scoring play was a Mason Crosby 57-yard Field Goal. Dallas Kicker, Dan Bailey was 4-4, striking on the Cowboy's very first drive of the game.
Dallas Receiver Dez Bryant and Running Back Demarco Murray were Green Bay's biggest challenge of the first half.
The two of them combined for 195 of Dallas' 332 yards of total offense.
Jason Witten and Murray had the Cowboy's two touchdowns of the first two quarters and Dallas led 26-3 at the half.
Whatever Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said to his team during halftime worked. The Pack scored touchdowns on each of their five possessions in the second half.
The first score was an 11-yard touchdown pass from Matt Flynn to Jordy Nelson -- making it 26-10.
On Dallas' first drive of the second half, Bailey added another field goal for the Cowboys, making it 29-10.
The Packers responded with Andrew Quarless catching a 3-yard touchdown pass from Flynn. This is the first time all season Quarless has had a touchdown in back-to-back games. With 1:09 left in the third quarter, it was a 12-point game (29-17).
With 12:47 left in the game, James Starks caught an 11-yard pass from Flynn to put this game within five (29-24).
But Dez Bryant would make the challenge even harder for the Pack, scoring a 5-yard touchdown off a pass from Tony Romo. Dallas stretched their lead to 36-24.
The Pack wouldn't give up the fight and on their next drive, James Jones caught a 3-yard pass from Flynn to make it a five-point game again (36-31).
Green Bay would get the ball back sooner than expected when Sam Shields picked off Romo on Dallas' next drive.
Packers' Eddie Lacy on the next possession ran for a one-yard TD -- making it 37-36. Green Bay tried for the two-point conversion but it failed.
Some would argue Tramon Williams was the hero of the game because with about 1:30 left in the game, Williams picked off Romo to give the Packers the final possession of the game. Matt Flynn took a knee twice leading his team to a "Miracle in Dallas."
Flynn threw for 299 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Romo finished with 358 passing yards, two touchdowns and two picks.
Packers RB, Eddie Lacy ran for 141 yards and one TD.
The win puts Green Bay over .500 at 7-6-1 on the year.
The Chicago Bears won against the Browns, making them 8-6 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC North.
The standings will change and the Packers playoff chances will shift depending on the Lions and Ravens match up in Detroit on Monday night.
Green Bay will host Pittsburgh at 3:25 p.m. CT next Sunday, December 22nd.
