Family of woman killed in car wreck receives community support

FRANKLIN (WITI) -- Mother of four, Tammy Gawlitta, was killed in a car accident on December 8th. On Friday, December 20th friends and community members came together to help provide a Merry Christmas for her family.

"It's been rough. It's been hard but I try to stay strong for my kids," said Michael Gawlitta, Tammy's husband. "Difficult times obviously asking about mom, stuff like that. Just trying to be honest and make sure they know she's still with us in spirit, watching over us."

Loved ones and strangers who were touched by the family's story brought donations, gifts and treats to a gathering, hoping to help them through a difficult holiday season. Michael says the support he's received has been overwhelming.

"It's just heartwarming. Amazing how many people just came through," said Gawlitta.

Organizers of the event say they aren't sure just how much money has been raised for the family but estimate it to be at least several thousand dollars.
