Rodgers out for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said quarterback Aaron Rodgers is out for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That announcement came Friday afternoon, December 20th during a news conference.

“Aaron Rodgers has been declared out for the game. As an organization, we feel we are not ready for him to play. He is not medically cleared,” Packers Coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday, according to Packers.com.

Rodgers has been sidelined since he suffered a collarbone fracture in a game against the Bears in early November.  Rodgers has missed six-and-three-quarters games — and the Pack has struggled without him.

Head coach Mike McCarthy says Matt Flynn will start against the Steelers.

“Matt Flynn is our starter. He’s ready,” McCarthy said. “We feel we can beat Pittsburgh with our football team. I had hoped Aaron’s situation would progress. We have a very good team coming in here on Sunday,” McCarthy added, according to Packers.com.

The Detroit Lions lost on Monday night — so if Green Bay wins its two remaining regular season games, the Packers will be NFC North Division champions.

Following that incredible comeback victory we saw this past Sunday — when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 37-36, the Packers this week take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular season home finale.

Last week, Green Bay overcame a 23-point halftime deficit (26-3) in the win over the Cowboys on Sunday, matching the biggest comeback in team history (down 23 vs. Los Angeles Rams, Sept. 12, 1982, won 35-23).

Kickoff this Sunday is set for 3:25 p.m. at Lambeau Field.
