Family of missing Racine man asking the public for help

RACINE (WITI) -- A Racine man is still missing five days after walking away from his assisted living home. The family of 57-year-old Ruben Santos is asking the community to help look for their loved one, simply by taking a look around their own yards.

"It's just unbelievable if he -- it's just hard to say it, you know -- if he survives this kind of weather out there by himself," said Santos' daughter Rosa Ramos.

Loved ones have been searching up to eight hours each day since Sunday, December 22nd when the mentally disabled man went missing from a facility on Byrd Ave. The family says Santos was wearing only a t-shirt, socks and sweatpants when he left the assisted living home.

"I've been screaming his name everywhere I stop," said Marta Santos. "I hope for the best but I'm prepared for the worst."

Santos' daughter say they have searched parks and other public places and are now relying on the community to help find their missing father.

"We wanted to ask the community to help us out and look around their backyards and anything they have, any shelters," said Ramos.

The family hopes with extra sets of eyes looking for Santos, they will get closer to answers.

If you see Santos you are asked to call 911 immediately. If you have any other information about Santos’ whereabouts, you are asked to call the Racine Police Department Investigation Unit at 262-635-7756.
