U.S. Marshals search for 62-year-old Melvatean Lampkins

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- U.S. Marshals are searching for 62-year-old Melvatean Lampkins. In 1968, then 18-year-old Lampkins was part of a grocery store robbery in which a 78-year-old man was shot and killed.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force says Lampkins was sentenced to life in prison plus 60 years for her participation in the crime.

Lampkins was allowed to attend school during her time in prison. She took advantage of the opportunity, escaping in 1976 and again in 1979. The woman has avoided law enforcement ever since.

Marshals say Lampkins has roots in the Milwaukee and Madison areas. She uses several aliases including Melver Lampkins, Melatean Gray, Tean Gray and Barbara Jackson.
