George Webb shooting victim Reggie Evans laid to rest

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Friends and family of Reggie Evans gathered at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, December 28th to honor the life of the 21-year-old who was killed while working at a George Webb just over a week earlier.

Evans is being remembered as a young man with a fun-loving spirit, a passion for basketball and a willingness to always go the extra mile for others.

On December 20th around 2 a.m., police say 28-year-old known felon Delorean Bryson, and several others, walked into the restaurant near Oakland and Locust where Evans was working. Prosecutors say the group appeared intoxicated and began throwing items around the room. Waitresses tried to get the group to leave.

"He was intervening because it was ladies and they needed a little help," said Evans' uncle, Winston Ford.

When Evans stepped in, police say Bryson threw hot coffee at him. Bryson then left the restaurant and a short time later, investigators say the man returned with a gun and shot Evans in the chest. Evans died at the scene.

"This is the Christmas season. This has forever marked the family of what Christmas is because it's just childish. It should have never happened," said Ford.

Many turned out to offer their condolences to Evans' mother, Laverne. Those who knew Evans say he will be greatly missed. The man is laid to rest at Graceland Cemetary.

Bryson has been charged with first degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
