Fans seeking shelter from cold fill Lambeau Field Atrium at halftime

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The temperatures on Sunday, January 5th gave new meaning to the term "Frozen Tundra!" Temperatures were hovering right around 5 degrees at kickoff at Lambeau Field on Sunday -- as the Pack faced off with the San Francisco 49ers in a playoff game. Fans FOX6 News spoke with were bundled up and ready to take in a January football game in Green Bay.

When the weather is at its worst, Packers fans are at their best!

FOX6 News found fans building heat lamps, running generators and unwrapping hand and foot warmers.

The only complaint: slushy beer!

"Oh it`s beautiful. Beautiful tailgating weather," Ron Main said.

Inside the stadium, as the game was played Sunday, some left their seats for some shelter from the cold wind -- drinking free coffee and hot chocolate and buying food that steamed their hands.

Then, at halftime, fans poured into Lambeau Field's Atrium to take advantage of its heat.

"It`s a little too cold out there! Can`t feel our fingers or our toes!" Carrie Jakusz said.

The Atrium quickly filled with people coming in from multiple entrances.

"It`s a little bit cold on the tips of the fingers and the tips of the toes but other than that if you dress well it`s fine," Shelley Lucht said.

Temperatures dropped further in the second half, as darkness began to descend on Lambeau Field -- but most fans FOX6 News spoke with weren't too bothered by it.

Most were just happy to have the opportunity to take in a playoff game at Lambeau Field -- with some just saying, of the cold "This is Wisconsin!"
