Pedestrian killed by train in Pleasant Prairie

PLEASANT PRAIRIE (WITI) -- Pleasant Prairie Police and Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of a pedestrian struck by a train near the 12200 block of Sheridan Rd. around 6 p.m. Thursday, January 9th.

The operator of a southbound Metra train told investigators that a pedestrian was struck after stepping into the path of the train from the side of the tracks.

Emergency personnel located a body near the area of the accident. The Kenosha County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene.

The victim has not been identified, however Pleasant Prairie Police Chief David Smetana says the male appeared to have been in his late teens or early 20's. He was not wearing headphones or anything that may have obstructed his hearing at the time of the accident.

Officials are still investigating the incident.
