Man taken to hospital after he drives into side of train

CALUMET COUNTY (WITI) -- Calumet County Sheriff's officials are investigating a train vs. pedestrian incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, January 28th.

It happened around 1:15 on Schneider Road, just east of State Highway 57 in the Town of Rantoul.

Officials say 60-year-old Thomas Gatza was headed westbound on Schneider Road in a pickup truck as a Canadian National Train was traveling south on the tracks.

Officials say Gatza had a yield sign at the train crossing -- but say Gatza failed to yield to the train and crashed into the side of it.

Gatza was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

This incident remains under investigation.
