MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Whether it's by train, bus or plane, many travelers are having a hard time getting out of Milwaukee due to the weather conditions across the nation. More than two dozen flights were cancelled on Tuesday, January 28th at Mitchell International Airport.

Flights were cancelled to places like New Orleans and Atlanta -- but not because of the extreme cold we're seeing in Wisconsin.

Instead, it's a winter storm in the south that is causing problems.

After visiting Washington, D.C., Jenne Spencer flew into Milwaukee without a problem, but catching a train to Chicago wasn't as easy.

Amtrak cancelled nearly half of its Hiawatha line trips on Tuesday -- blaming the extreme cold and the affect it can have on the tracks.

"We checked our flight when we got here, making sure it was on time. I did not occur to me the train was having mechanical problems and would get cancelled," Spencer said.

At the Milwaukee Intermodal Station, Anton Cook sat alone on the Amtrak side of the station -- and he was just waiting for a bus.

"I'm used to everyone being on both sides, so I get over here and I'm like 'wow, I'm by myself,'" Cook said.

Rhonda Howse learned Tuesday she might have to wait at least two hours for a Greyhound bus.

The bus company says many others have been waiting since Monday night after the extreme cold delayed or cancelled bus trips out of Milwaukee.

"If there`s enough room, I`ll get in there. If not, I`ll just continue to wait because I have to get to Chicago for my daughter," Howse said.

A Greyhound spokeswoman says buses were up and running by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday -- but by noon, FOX6 News was still talking to passengers who had been waiting since Monday night.

A spokesman for Mitchell International Airport says he isn't aware of the weather creating any issues for planes in Milwaukee.
