LAFAYETTE CO. (WITI) — A Waukesha man was sentenced on Friday, January 31st for beating three people to death in Lafayette County in 2013.

A judge sentenced 31-year-old Jaren Kuester to spend the rest of his life in a mental institution.

Prosecutors say Kuester broke into a rural farmhouse in April 2013 and killed the victims with a fireplace poker. He was later arrested in Waukesha.

Kuester’s family says Jaren has long suffered with mental illness.
