Officials battled 4-alarm fire at S&R Egg Farm in La Grange

LA GRANGE, Wis. (WITI) -- Fire officials battled a large blaze at S&R Egg Farm in La Grange, just east of Whitewater, Wisconsin. The 4-alarm fire was reported around 7:30 Friday evening, January 31st.

Multiple departments, including La Grange, Whitewater, Rome, Milton and Clinton fire departments, were called to the scene. The Racine Fire Bells were also dispatched to assist fire crews on the scene.

Officials on the scene said one building became fully engulfed in flames and the roof collapsed. The fire, however, did not appear to spread to other buildings.

Crews were having trouble getting enough water to the blaze quickly, trucking in water from up to seven miles away.

The farm covers nearly 800 acres and currently houses approximately 2.4 million hens producing up to two million eggs daily. Some animals are feared dead.

Officials said they did not believe any people were inside the buildings.
