Officials investigate apartment fire in Town of Barton

WASHINGTON CO. (WITI) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of an apartment fire in the Town of Barton on Sunday night, February 2nd.

Upon arrival, deputies located an active fire within the active space above the second floor hallway.

Firefighters from Kohlsville Fire Department and Allenton Fire Department were able to extinguish the fire and contain the fire to the area of the attic and second floor hallway ceiling.

As a result of the smoke damage, the apartment’s electric and heat was disconnected. The American Red Cross and the Washington County Humane Society assisted dispersed tenants.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff Department.

No tenants or emergency responders were injured in the incident. An estimated amount of damage is not available at this time.
