Public Works Comm. makes amendments to Pedal Tavern ordinance

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Common Council is set to vote on an issue involving Milwaukee's Pedal Tavern.

Under state law, people can bring and drink canned beer on pedal taverns - but individual municipalities can choose to prohibit or regulate it.

Earlier this year, the city's Public Works Committee passed an ordinance that will allow people to drink on Milwaukee's Pedal Tavern, but the full Common Council sent the ordinance back to the committee for further discussion.

On Wednesday, February 19th, the committee amended its proposed ordinance.

"It would enable us to require a plan of operation, not only for the geographic location in which the operators would be operating but also, in addition to that, would enable us to get additional stipulations," Milwaukee Alderman Jim Bohl said.

Those stipulations could include hours of operation.

If the operator deviates from its operational plan, it could face suspension, non-renewal or revocation.

The amended proposal now heads to the full Common Council for a vote in March.
