Fond du Lac Co. woman sentenced in fatal crash

FOND DU LAC COUNTY (WITI) -- A Fond du Lac County woman has been sentenced in a case in which she is accused of causing a fatal crash due to aggressive passing of vehicles.

The crash occurred in the early morning of August 14th, 2013 on Highway 23 east of 7 Hills Road in the Town of Forest.

Callers reported a westbound vehicle had been passing vehicles and may have caused the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicates a westbound vehicle operated by 51-year-old Laurie Garcia was actively passing a number of vehicles.

An eastbound vehicle operated by a 53-year-old Fond du Lac woman took evasive action, swerving to the right onto the shoulder to avoid the westbound vehicle.

The eastbound driver then lost control of her vehicle, traveled across the highway and was struck by a westbound vehicle operated by a 41-year-old St Cloud man.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, 53-year-old Kathleen Fee of Fond du Lac was not wearing a seatbelt. She was ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, 41-year-old Mark Feldner from St Cloud, sustained non life-threatening injuries.

FOX6 News has learned Garcia pleaded no contest to a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle in the case, and was found guilty based upon that plea.

Garcia was sentenced to three years in prison, two years of extended supervision, and four years of probation.

Additionally, Garcia will have her driver's license revoked for one year.
