Wausau woman sentenced to prison for fatally torturing dog

WAUSAU (AP) — A 22-year-old woman has been sentenced to prison for fatally torturing a dog belonging to her former boyfriend.

Sean Janas was sentenced Monday, March 17th to 1½ years in prison followed by nine months in jail and two years extended supervision on felony animal mistreatment charges.

Janas was given credit for 447 days served and will spend 100 days in prison before she is transferred back to Marathon County to begin her jail term.

Before sentencing, Judge Greg Grau read excerpts from Janas' diary that detailed the abuse Janas inflicted on the 4-year-old German shepherd-Labrador mix named Mary. The dog died in 2012 after being repeatedly stabbed, beaten and poisoned with Drano and bleach.

Janas apologized in court and said her addiction to heroin destroyed her life.
