WIS-28 to close for construction in Washington County

WASHINGTON CO. (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will begin work on WIS-28 from Highway 45 to 144 in Washington County. Work will begin on this six-mile stretch Monday, March 24th. Construction is expected to continue until the end of the year.

Beginning Monday, WIS-28 will be closed to thru traffic. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Highway 45 south, CTH H east, and WIS-144 north.

Parts of WIS-28 will be reconstructed while other parts of the road will be resurfaced. The bridge over the Milwaukee River will be replaced. The project will include the smoothing out of hills and improving sight distance for motorists. These improvements are expected to enhance driver safety.

Improvements to sewer and water mains will be in the initial stage of the project with bridge work expected to start in May.
