Oak Creek plans to spend $50,000 on pothole repairs

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- This brutal winter has taken its toll on the roads and now the City of Oak Creek is taking steps to make sure it's prepared to fix them.

Gaping holes, cracked pavement and dreaded potholes fill many streets around the area -- and with continuing cold weather, it's becoming more and more difficult to patch things up.

"This winter's never-ending, so the potholes are just getting worse," said driver Julie Borchardt. "Any time you try to avoid one pothole, you hit three or four more."

City leaders in Oak Creek want to make sure the roads are repaired as efficiently as possible. The council approved shifting $50,000 to an emergency road repair fund.

"It's going to be a process, but having the funds ready to go means that we're going to be that much ahead," said Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi. "We just wanted to make sure that we had the funds allocated ahead of time and we were ready to go from day one, once we can do the work."

The fund is about 75% more than the city normally spends to fix pothole problems. Crews are now waiting for a stretch of warmer weather in order to do the repairs.
